Trump pick Brendan Carr as new chairman of FCC

US President-elect Donald Trump picked lawyer Brendan Carr to be the new chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The FCC plays a key role in regulating telecommunications and media in the United States, including overseeing the Internet, television broadcasting, and the introduction of new technologies, making it one of the most important agencies for the American economy and communications infrastructure.

“Commissioner Carr is a warrior for Free Speech, and has fought against the regulatory Lawfare that has stifled Americans’ Freedoms, and held back our Economy,” Trump said in a statement on Truth Social. “He will end the regulatory onslaught that has been crippling America’s Job Creators and Innovators, and ensure that the FCC delivers for rural America.”

Brendan Carr has benn serving at the FCC since 2012, including as an adviser to then-Chairman Ajit Pai. Prior to that, he specialized in appellate and regulatory law and served as a law clerk for a federal appellate court.

Carr received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and graduated with a Juris Doctor magna cum laude from Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law, where he was a former editor of the university’s law journal.
