Sushanta lashes erstwhile govt for not working for  budding sports talents

Agartala: December 15. Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury today lashed out at the then left front government claiming that the previous government has failed to provide basic facilities to the budding sports talents of the state.

Minister Chowhdury today inaugurated a newly constructed Swimming Pool and 100 bedded boys residential hostel at Regional College of Physical Education at Panisagar in North Tripura district today in the august presence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.

Along with this Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone of Synthetic Athletic Track today. With the construction of synthetic track under Khelo India, the young players here will get an opportunity to prepare according to international standards without interruption in every season.

After the inauguration, the Chief Minister also observed the newly constructed Swimming Pool and 100 Bedded Boys Residential Hostel Building for boys.

“Our government has done many development works across the state. We are trying to provide world class facilities to the players of the entire state. We want our youth to develop their skills. There are many swimming events at the national and international level, in which players can show their talent by participating. This swimming pool will give a boost to the local athletes. Swimmers around this complex are going to be greatly benefitted by this. Local people should take care of government infrastructure and should treat it as their property”, he said.

He also said that the government alone cannot take care of it, but the public should also take responsibility for it.

“Due to the excellent facilities provided by our government for sports, the players of the state are shining in various sports at the national and international level. The previous government has failed to provide basic facilities to the budding sports talents of the state. But from now onwards such situation will not remain. With the facility of hostel, the students here will be able to get their education in a better way. This synthetic athletic track will be manufactured as per the rules and sizes recommended by the International Association of Athletics Federations. The track will include essential amenities for handling a wide variety of sports”, said the minister.

Sushanta further said that the players have been demanding installation of synthetic track for a long time and today their demands were fulfilled.

Among other dignitaries present at today’s inauguration ceremony were MLA from Panisagar Assembly Constituency Binay Bhushan Das, Zilla Sabhadhipati of North Tripura Zilla Parishad Bhabatosh Das, Ex-Principal of Regional College of Physical Education/Associate Prof. Dr. Chitrajit Bhowmik.
