Youth’s interest in sports rising due to Govt’s infrastructure push: CM

Agartala, 7th July 2025:  Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that currently, the interest of youth in sports has increased significantly compared to before, and this has been possible due to the overall development of the sports infrastructure by the state government.

Dr. Saha said this while interacting with journalists during the prize distribution ceremony at Umakanta Stadium on the last day of the Hotel Sonartari B-Division League 2025–26.

It is worth noting that in this football league, which started on June 8, Aikatan Yuva Sangstha of Shantipara became the champion without losing a single match, while the runners-up were Birendra Club.

The Chief Minister and other guests handed over the trophies and cash cheques to the members of the award-winning clubs.In the last match of the competition at the Umakanta ground today, the game between Birendra Club and Nabodaya Sangha ended in a goalless draw.The Tripura Football Association was instrumental in organizing this football competition.

Later, Dr. Saha said that the present government has been striving to develop the sports infrastructure of the state since the beginning.“The more the youth are involved in sports, the more it will be possible to keep them away from the curse of addiction. Only then will it be possible to fulfill the goal of forming a better Tripura,” he said.

The Chief Minister congratulated all the team members participating in the competition and expressed hope that their results will be better in the future.Tripura Industrial Development Corporation Chairman Nabadal Banik, Tripura Olympic Association Chairman Ratan Saha, Tripura Football Association President Pranab Sarkar, Vice President Rupak Saha, and others were present at today’s award ceremony.
