Agartala, 9th July 2025 :   Despite challenging weather, a large-scale disaster preparedness drill was conducted on Wednesday across West Tripura district, focusing on response mechanisms to landslides and floods. The simulation, organised at 12 locations, aimed at strengthening coordination among agencies during natural calamities.

During the exercise, 13 relief camps were set up as part of the drill. Approximately 1,500 personnel—including officials from disaster response forces and volunteers—participated in the mock operations. Between 200 and 300 individuals were “rescued” in simulated scenarios.

Dr. Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate of West Tripura, remarked that the drill was largely successful and served as a valuable learning experience. However, he emphasized the need for further coordination and fine-tuning. Units from the NDRF, SDRF, Assam Rifles, Fire Services, BSF, CRPF, and local police actively took part, joined by West Tripura’s Superintendent of Police, Dr. Kiran Kumar.

A special drill was also carried out under the initiative of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Santirbazar. Simulations were held at Gardhao Ashwini Tripura Para, Muhuripur, and near the Mukut Auditorium in Santirbazar subdivision.

Personnel from TSR 9th Battalion, Santirbazar Fire Services, the Health Department, and several other government departments participated in the operations. As part of the simulation, 38 mock victims were “rescued” across three locations in the subdivision, with 10 critically injured individuals admitted to hospitals.

Overall, the coordinated exercises across multiple districts were deemed a significant stride in boosting Tripura’s disaster preparedness infrastructure.
