Agartala, 11th July 2025: At least 10 to 15 students fell ill due to extreme heat during a procession organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on the occasion of National Students’ Day in Bishalgarh today afternoon. The students, many of whom were reportedly suffering from asthma, were immediately referred to GBP Hospital for medical attention.
The procession, which stretched across two kilometers, saw participation from students of several schools across the Bishalgarh subdivision.
However, as temperatures soared, several participants collapsed due to heat exhaustion. Eyewitnesses said that the scene at Bishalgarh Hospital turned chaotic as anxious guardians and onlookers gathered in large numbers.
According to ABVP officials, some students had joined the rally without eating, which worsened their condition in the scorching weather.
Meanwhile, Arijit Sinha, Health Officer of Bishalgarh subdivison, strongly criticized the move. “It is extremely dangerous to organize such long marches involving school children in this kind of oppressive heat,” he said. “The organizers should have taken better precautions.”
The incident has sparked debate over the responsibility of student organizations and the need for better planning, especially when involving minors in public events during extreme weather conditions.
