Agartala, 23rd July 2025:  Tripura Member of Parliament and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi to review the progress of key infrastructure projects in the state.

In the meeting, the leaders held a detailed discussion on the ongoing national highway and road development works in Tripura and chalked out an action plan for their timely completion.

Highlighting the impact of recent heavy rains in the region, Deb said there was an urgent need to construct sustainable RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) roads in the state to prevent long-term damage and ensure durability.

He informed that a proposal has been made to send a high-level central inspection team to Tripura to assess the quality of ongoing construction works. “Wherever there are doubts regarding the quality of construction, the team will identify the shortcomings and recommend strict action,” Deb stated.

He further said that the long-pending demand for a proper drainage system along the Shantirbazar section of National Highway-8 has now been included in the annual action plan of the ministry.

Additionally, Deb urged for the expedited completion of RCC bridges over the Gomti and Muhuri rivers, as well as the Agartala-Sabroom Approach Road. The target has been set to complete these critical projects by November 2025.

Emphasizing the importance of maintaining quality standards, Deb called for the swift execution of 11 ongoing projects in the state without compromising on work quality.

The meeting underlined the Centre’s continued commitment towards strengthening connectivity and road infrastructure in the Northeast, particularly in Tripura.
