Agartala, 25th July 2025:   The Steel Footbridge near Bamboo Market in Sonamura has been closed indefinitely following safety concerns, according to an official notification issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) today. Warning boards were installed on both ends of the bridge, and temporary bamboo barriers were placed to restrict pedestrian and vehicular movement.

Officials cited the bridge’s dilapidated condition and risk of a major accident as reasons for the closure. A team from the subdivision administration and relevant departments conducted an inspection before declaring the shutdown.

Speaking to the media, Deputy Collector and Magistrate Prabir Saha urged public cooperation, stating, “Nothing is more valuable than human life.” He added that tenders for a new bridge have been floated, and efforts are underway to repair the existing structure to restore safe access in the interim.
