Agartala, 31st July 2025: Acting on a tip-off, a joint operation by the Tripura Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) led to the seizure of Yaba tablets worth nearly 1 crore and the arrest of three individuals from outside the state. The operation took place in the early hours of Wednesday in the Bashpukur Panchayat area under Jatrapur Police Station.
According to sources, a suspicious luxury vehicle without a registration number was intercepted near Moharram Ali School in the School Para area. Upon thorough inspection, the police and BSF personnel discovered 14,000 Yaba tablets concealed inside the car.
Sensing the police presence, the accused attempted to flee and took shelter in a nearby house. However, security personnel quickly tracked them down and apprehended all three. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sarfraz Ahmed, Yuber Ahmed and Nazrul Islam. Interrogation is currently underway to determine the full extent of their involvement and any potential links to a wider drug trafficking network.
Jatrapur Police Station’s newly appointed Officer-in-Charge, Smri Kantha Bardhan confirmed that the raid was conducted with the support of BSF personnel from the Shalpukur camp. He led the late-night operation along with Sub-Inspectors Bijoy Chakraborty, Amarjit Debbarma, Pritam Dutta, Rumi Akhtar and other constables.
The vehicle used in the smuggling operation has also been seized. Authorities noted the absence of valid documentation or registration for the car, raising suspicions of involvement by a larger interstate smuggling syndicate.
“The police and BSF will continue such joint operations in the future. We are committed to building a drug-free society,” said OC Bardhan.
