Agartala, August 05: A woman from Jatanbari, who had been staying at her parental home for treatment after falling ill, was severely burned in a fire incident this morning. Local authorities and neighbors rushed to her aid following cries for help and she is currently battling for her life at GB Hospital.
According to the victim’s mother, her daughter had returned to her parental residence 4 to 5 days back. “My son-in-law brought her back home and gave me money to buy medicine. He told me to inform him once she got better so he could take her home again,” she said.
This morning, the mother had bathed her daughter and left her inside while she stepped out to visit a neighbor. Suddenly, she heard loud screams and returned to find her daughter engulfed in flames. At the time, only her elder daughter and younger mute daughter were at home.
Neighbors responded swiftly to the cries, dousing the fire before firefighters arrived. Emergency responders transported the victim to Gomati District Hospital, where doctors confirmed her condition was critical. “She has sustained burn injuries over approximately 85% of her body. She has been referred to GB Hospital for advanced treatment due to the severity of her condition,” a hospital official stated.
