Agartala, 12th August 2025:   Tripura police have uncovered a brutal murder-for-hire plot allegedly orchestrated by a local man and executed by individuals with political ties. The decomposed body of 45-year-old Kona Debnath Das, who had been missing for two weeks, was recovered Tuesday morning from the dense Kashari forest under Sonamura’s Jatrapur police jurisdiction.

The victim’s daughter Preeti Debnath had filed a missing person report with Belonia Women’s Police Station after her mother disappeared on July 28. Following an intensive investigation, police arrested Kona’s husband, Raju Das, along with Dulan Das, a former Trinamool Congress candidate in the recent municipal elections and Mohammad Mia. Authorities allege that Raju paid ₹50,000 to have his wife killed.

According to police sources, Dulan Das (28) from Ram Thakur Para in Belonia and Mohammad Mia (35) from Muslim Para in Rajnagar were known to the victim. Investigators say Dulan lured Kona out of her home via phone calls and led her to the secluded forest, where Mohammad Mia allegedly slit her throat from behind using a meat cleaver.

The suspects were tracked through mobile phone data and arrested late Monday night. During interrogation, they reportedly confessed and led police to the crime scene. Forensic experts have since been called in to examine the site and the recovered remains.

The involvement of a former TMC candidate in the murder has sent shockwaves through the local political landscape. While police continue to investigate the motive and connections, the case has raised serious questions about criminal infiltration in local politics.

Authorities are expected to present the accused in court later this week. Meanwhile, the victim’s family is demanding swift justice and a thorough probe into the political links surrounding the case.
