Veteran journalist and poet Satyabrata Chakraborty under treatment at GBP Hospital

Agartala, 16th August 2025:   The veteran journalist and renowned poet Satyabrata Chakraborty (85) has been admitted to GBP Hospital after he developed breathing complications at his Bardowali residence yesterday. Family sources confirmed that he was rushed to the hospital immediately and is now reported to be in stable condition following medical care. 

Hospital sources informed that Chakraborty, who has been facing age-related mobility issues for some time, responded positively to treatment. Members of the journalist fraternity, along with several other personalities of the state expressed their concern and wished him a speedy recovery. A delegation from the Press Club’s managing committee also visited the hospital to inquire about his health. 

Chakraborty began his career with the daily Jagaran before moving to the weekly Samachar edited by the late Anil Bhattacharjee. He later joined The Statesman, Kolkata, where he served with distinction for more than three decades. 

Apart from his journalistic contributions, Chakraborty is also celebrated as a cultural figure and poet. Several collections of his poems have been published in book form, while his works have also been featured in the Sahitya Akademi’s literary journal, adding to his stature as one of Tripura’s well-known literary voices.
