Agartala, 17th August 2025:  A 30-year-old carpenter Nitush Das was found dead by suicide in his home in Pekuchhara Ward No. 3, Panisagar, North Tripura district late on August 16. The incident followed a prolonged domestic dispute with his wife, according to family sources.

Das, who occasionally consumed alcohol, had frequent arguments with his wife. On the morning of the incident, his wife left with their daughter for her parental home in Kumarghat after a heated quarrel. That evening, Das visited his in-laws in an attempt to reconcile, but his wife refused to return. Disheartened, he came back home alone.

Around 9 PM, Das reportedly locked the front door, entered through the back, and used his wife’s saree to hang himself. His elderly mother, sensing something was wrong after hearing him repeatedly ask for forgiveness, alerted his elder brother, Pramananda Das. Upon arrival, Pramananda broke into the room and rushed Nitish to Panisagar Sub-Divisional Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Police arrived shortly after and sent the body for post-mortem. The remains were handed over to the family the next day.
