Ampi holds yarn distribution drive to empower indigenous women and preserve cultural attire

Agartala, 20th August 2025:    In a bid to promote traditional costumes and revive home-based weaving practices among indigenous communities, the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has launched a special initiative aimed at supporting women from ADC regions. The programme seeks to foster enthusiasm for community-identical attire and strengthen cultural identity through sustainable garment production.

Under the guidance of Ampi MDC Sadagar Kalai, a mega yarn distribution event was held at the Ampi Community Hall in Gomati district. The programme was graced by Ampi MLA Pathanlal Jamatia, who emphasized the cultural significance of traditional attire and its role in preserving community heritage.

MDC Sadagar Kalai inspired women from various villages across the Ampi block by distributing a diverse range of colorful yarns, encouraging them to continue weaving garments that reflect their unique identity and craftsmanship. The initiative aims to boost local weaving practices, ensuring the garments are both durable and culturally resonant.

Women attending the event expressed joy and appreciation for the free yarn distribution, acknowledging the MDC’s efforts to uplift indigenous artisans. In his address, Kalai praised the weaving skills of local women and urged them to preserve and pass on their rich cultural traditions to future generations.

The event saw participation from several notable figures, including Ampi Nagar TMP President Sanjay Jamatia, Ampi ZDO Rathindra Debbarma, TWF President Kalija Kalai, Ampi Sub-Zonal Chairman Gakul Nanda Jamatia, Amarpur ZDO Malita Mohan Tripura, social activist Deb Sadhan Jamatia, and many others.
