Agartala, 20th August 2025 : A wave of unrest has gripped Dharmanagar’s Sripur locality following a brutal assault on Sanjoy Nath, a high-speed tuk-tuk driver and resident of the area. The incident took place late last night near the BMS office, where a group of unidentified assailants allegedly attacked Nath beside a public toilet, leaving him severely injured. He is currently undergoing treatment at North Tripura District Hospital, Agartala.
In response, BMS (Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh) activists staged a protest march this afternoon, demanding the immediate arrest of the perpetrators. Led by BMS leader Biplab Das, the demonstrators submitted a formal complaint at Dharmanagar police station and warned of escalating their agitation if swift action is not taken.
Following the protest, tensions escalated further as BMS workers reportedly marched to the Dharmanagar ISBT (Inter-State Bus Terminal) and halted all ticketing operations, causing temporary disruption to transport services.
Child’s safety sparks outrage after auto-rickshaw driver allegedly abandons 4-year-old over Rs 10 fare
Agartala, August 21: A disturbing incident involving a four-year-old boy has prompted police warnings and public concern in Bishalgarh, after the child was allegedly abandoned at Charilam market by an auto-rickshaw driver over a Rs 10 fare.
The child identified as Abhijit Pal, reportedly boarded the auto from Jangalia, Bishalgarh and was dropped off alone at Charilam market. Sub-Inspector Prosenjit Debnath of Bishalgarh Police Station condemned the act as “highly reprehensible,” warning that similar negligence in the future would invite legal action.
Local shopkeepers Harimadhab Debnath and Bimal Debnath played a crucial role in safeguarding the child. This morning, they noticed Abhijit wandering aimlessly in the market and sensing something was amiss, brought him into their shop. After speaking with the boy, they alerted police.
Abhijit revealed that he lives in a rented house near the Jangalia electricity office and does not attend school. His father Kajal Pal reportedly survives by begging. The boy had somehow managed to gather Rs 10 and took an auto to Charilam market, claiming he intended to visit his sister’s in-laws but could not identify the house.
Thanks to the swift coordination between the traders and police, authorities contacted the child’s relatives and arranged for his safe return to Jangalia in Bishalgarh.
