Agartala, 20th August 2025 :  A five-year-old Krish Das lost his battle with blood cancer on Thursday while undergoing treatment at a cancer hospital. His death has cast a pall of grief over his impoverished home in Chakmaghat, where his family now mourns the loss of their youngest member.

Krish’s story is one of quiet resilience amid crushing adversity. His father, Biswajit Das, is a 100% speech-and-hearing impaired fisherman, while his mother, Basanti Saha (Das), suffers from 75% mental disability. The family’s livelihood depended solely on fishing in the Khowai River, and the cost of cancer treatment running into lakhs was far beyond their reach.

When doctors diagnosed Krish with leukemia, the family was devastated. Despite knocking on the doors of government offices and seeking help from social workers, no substantial support came. Krish continued to fight for his life, moment by moment, without the resources or backing that could have made a difference.

A few days ago, Krish was admitted to the cancer hospital, where Minister Bikash Debbarma had visited and interacted with children. Upon hearing of Krish’s death, the minister personally visited the grieving family in Chakmaghat on Thursday, accompanied by Mandal President Dhananjay Das and members of the BJP youth wing.

The scene at Krish’s home was one of anguish—his parents inconsolable, neighbors gathering to share in the sorrow.

Minister Debbarma expressed his condolences, stating, “Honourable Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha had arranged for the child’s treatment, and medical care had begun. But despite all efforts, death claimed him. I am deeply saddened by his passing and assure the family of our continued support.”
