Agartala, 20th August 2025 : Tensions flared in Mungiakami Bazaar this afternoon after a group of local youths allegedly obstructed the ongoing construction of a government-sanctioned health sub-centre. The disruption sparked concern among residents and prompted an immediate visit from Tribal Welfare minister Bikash Debbarma.
Speaking at the site, Minister Debbarma emphasized that the sub-centre is part of a broader initiative jointly undertaken by the central and state governments to improve public welfare infrastructure across Tripura. “This project is crucial for enhancing healthcare access in Mungiakami and surrounding areas,” he stated. “Attempts to derail such development by local mafia elements will not be tolerated.”
He further warned that strict legal action would be taken against those responsible for the obstruction, calling the act “anti-people” and detrimental to the region’s progress. Accompanying the minister were Krishnapur BJP Mandal President Dhananjay Das and several party workers.
Local residents expressed disappointment over the incident, noting that the demand for a permanent healthcare facility in Mungiakami has been longstanding. Many voiced hope that the new sub-centre would alleviate persistent medical challenges in the area.
Following the minister’s visit, local authorities have reportedly begun investigating the matter to ensure the project proceeds without further hindrance.
