Agartala, 22nd August 2025: A local shopkeeper in Ramnagar’s 4 No. Road area fell victim to a late-night burglary, raising fresh concerns over security lapses in the neighborhood. The incident occurred at a general provisions store owned by Amalendu Datta Majumdar, who found the theft early this morning upon opening his shop.
According to Majumdar, thieves broke in through the roof, allegedly accessing the store from an adjacent under-construction building. Several essential goods were stolen, along with a significant amount of cash from the shop’s cash box. The estimated loss is reported to be around ₹1 lakh.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted and have launched a preliminary investigation. Officials stated that CCTV footage is being reviewed and nearby residents are being questioned for potential leads. However, no arrests have been made so far.
The incident has sparked unrest among local residents and traders, many of whom voiced frustration over the lack of adequate night-time police patrols. “This isn’t the first time. We’re constantly living in fear. The administration needs to step up security before things get worse,” said one shopkeeper.
Local business owners are now urging authorities to increase surveillance and ensure better protection for commercial establishments in the area.
