Agartala, 25th August 2025: A heartfelt memorial was held yesterday evening at the rehearsal hall of Cultural Campaign to pay tribute to the late lighting artist Dulal Das. The event began with floral tributes to Das’ portrait by theatre artists and organizers, followed by a soulful musical homage from singer Sushmita Som.
Cultural Campaign Secretary Debasish Sarkar opened the remembrance, describing Das as inseparable from the organization and lamenting the void his absence has created. Veteran actress Rekha Datta of Khowai Natya Sangha and Neelkanta Sinha, founding member of Laikon Manipuri Cultural Organisation, recalled Das’ pivotal role in every Laikon production since its inception.
Actor Priyankar Dasgupta highlighted Das’ enduring influence on the theatre world, while Pranatosh Raha shared insights into Das’ journey into lighting design. Tributes also came from Shanti Sutradhar, actor Haripada Sinha, and Cultural Campaign president Saikat Ray.
Director Arun Pal reflected on 45 years of shared theatrical memories with Das, quoting Tagore: “What ends, ends only to the eye; beyond the darkness, the door opens to light.” Artist Arpita Ray closed the evening with the poignant line, “Tumi robe nirobe…”, echoing the lasting presence of Dulal Das in the hearts of his peers.
