Agartala, 26th August 2025: Political tensions flared in Bishalgarh subdivision following the brutal assault on a local schoolteacher, prompting sharp criticism from opposition parties and renewed calls for accountability under the BJP-led state government.
Yesterday evening, Rajesh Sur Chowdhury, a well-known teacher in Bishalgarh was allegedly attacked by unidentified miscreants near the Sub-Divisional Hospital while returning home from school. Chowdhury sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby medical facility.
In response, Congress leaders submitted a deputation to the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, accusing the BJP government of failing to maintain law and order. “Teachers are being assaulted in broad daylight, and the administration remains silent. This reflects the collapse of policing and governance in Bishalgarh,” said a Congress spokesperson during a press briefing. He further alleged that journalists were also targeted at the hospital on the same night, adding to the climate of fear gripping local residents.
CPI(M) also held a press conference condemning the incident and broader issues of violence and lawlessness. A senior CPI(M) leader stated, “Since the BJP came to power in Tripura, attacks on CPI(M) offices and workers have intensified. We warned earlier that this violence would not remain confined to political opponents, it would eventually engulf the entire state.” He accused the ruling party of being complicit in criminal activities ranging from drug trafficking to moral degradation, claiming that even BJP members are now falling victim to internal strife.
The Chairman of the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC) Nabadal Banik visited Bishalgarh police station late last night demanding immediate arrests of those responsible for the attack on Chowdhury.
