Agartala, 28th August 2025:    For over eight months, the Vivekananda Anganwadi Kendra in Chandpur Para has remained without a designated worker, sparking repeated protests from local residents. Frustrated by the lack of action from authorities, villagers have once again locked the centre’s doors in a symbolic act of dissent.

This morning, parents from the area staged a second round of protest by padlocking the centre, demanding immediate staff appointment. Despite repeated assurances from officials, including a fresh appeal from the supervisor of the Kathalia Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) project, the community remains unconvinced.

“We’ve been told the recruitment process will begin shortly and that the issue will be resolved soon. But we’ve heard this before,” said one protester. “Until we see real action, the lock stays.”

The Anganwadi Kendra serves approximately 60 children from 130 families in Ward No. 2 of Nidaya Panchayat. It previously offered early childhood education and nutritional support. However, since the retirement of worker Gauri Nag (Das) eight months ago, no replacement has been appointed, leaving families without access to essential services.

Speaking to reporters, residents voiced their frustration: “Our children are missing out on both learning and nutrition. We demand that a new worker be appointed from within the same ward without further delay.”

When approached for comment, ICDS supervisor Samaresh Biswas confirmed the situation: “We’ve submitted a proposal to higher authorities. Approval is still pending, but once granted, recruitment will proceed.”
