Agartala, 1st September 2025;   The Tripura Scheduled Castes Coordination Committee commemorated the 87th birth anniversary of late Anil Sarkar, a revered poet, social activist and former minister with a tribute event held in front of City Centre here today.

The ceremony was attended by committee’s state president and former minister Ratan Bhowmik, who led the homage to Sarkar’s legacy. In his address, Bhowmik highlighted Sarkar’s lifelong commitment to the rights of Dalits and economically marginalized communities, stating that “even decades after independence, these groups continue to face daily oppression.”

Bhowmik criticized the current BJP-led government, alleging that many of the rights secured under Sarkar’s leadership during the Left Front regime are now being systematically dismantled. He accused the central government of attempting to undermine constitutional rights and promote authoritarian policies, warning that such efforts to rewrite history would not be tolerated by the people.

“The BJP fears the legacy of the Left Front’s movements,” Bhowmik asserted, adding that the fight for Dalit rights remains ongoing. He claimed that public sentiment is shifting, with citizens preparing to challenge both the central BJP leadership and the state government, which has been in power for seven and a half years. “None of their promises have been fulfilled,” he said, “and instead, they’ve eroded the hard-won rights of the previous administration.”

Calling for unity, Bhowmik urged citizens to mobilize and resist what he described as a growing threat to democratic values and social justice.
