Agartala, 10th September 2025: Tensions flared in Dharmanagar’s Nayapara locality following a violent clash between two factions of the ruling party over alleged financial disputes. The sudden outbreak of violence sent shockwaves through the town, prompting both groups to file counter-complaints at the Dharmanagar police station.
Police sources informed that a large contingent of security personnel has been deployed to restore order in the area. The situation, though currently under control, remains volatile.
The conflict centers around two local political figures, Hira Jyoti Nath and Mithun Das, who have publicly accused each other of misconduct. Nath alleges that he was physically assaulted at the Nayapara stand by Mithun Das, Nitish Mallik, Rupam Dhar and Subham Adhikari. He claims the attack was motivated by false accusations that he was extorting money from locals.
Nath further stated that Jnanamoy Sinha, a close associate of Mithun Das, had borrowed money from several local cricket players and then disappeared. When confronted, Sinha reportedly told creditors that the funds were being held by Nayapara Club secretary Mithun Das.
In response, Mithun Das denied the allegations, asserting that Hira Jyoti Nath was never affiliated with the BJP and had used images of party leaders to collect donations under false pretenses. Das also accused Nath of entering the Nayapara Club and assaulting its members, leading to a formal complaint being lodged against him.
Nath, however, refuted the claim, questioning how a single individual could overpower multiple club members. He maintains that he was the victim of a brutal attack and intends to file a case against Das and his associates.
The exchange of accusations has kept the town on edge, with the Dharmanagar police station itself experiencing moments of unrest. While administrative intervention has temporarily calmed the situation, residents remain concerned about how long the peace will last.
