Tripura journalists pay tribute to slain photojournalist Santanu Bhowmik

Agartala, 20th September 2025:  The 8th death anniversary of martyred photojournalist Santanu Bhowmik was observed today by the Tripura Journalists’ Union at the Agartala Press Club. Members of the union paid floral tribute to Bhowmik’s portrait, commemorating his contribution to journalism and his tragic death in the line of duty.

The solemn gathering was attended by Tripura Journalists’ Union President Sajjad Ali, Executive President Pranab Sarkar, Vice Presidents Sourajit Pal and Samaresh De, among others.

Addressing the brief ceremony, Pranab Sarkar expressed deep concern over the lack of justice even nine years after Bhowmik’s murder. “It is extremely unfortunate that the perpetrators have not been punished,” he said, urging the government to ensure exemplary punishment for those responsible for the daylight killing. Sarkar also called upon the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to expedite the probe and deliver justice without further delay.
