Agartala, 20th September 2025:  Several Bangladeshi passengers were detained this morning at the Srimantapur checkpost on suspicion of carrying unauthorized goods across the border, officials said.

Manager of the Agartala Land Port Debasish Nandi stated that preliminary findings suggest the individuals may have attempted to transport illegal items through the BSF gate. “It appears they were carrying goods exceeding the permitted weight limit, which could be a reason for their detention,” Nandi added.

The detained individuals were later handed over to the Customs Department. However, it remains unclear whether any legal action has been initiated against them.

Security has been tightened in the checkpost area, and a detailed investigation into the incident is currently underway.
