Agartala, 20th September 2025:   In a gesture of festive goodwill, MLA of Fatikroy assembly constituency and state’s ARD, Fisheries and SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das distributed new clothes to over 300 underprivileged residents across six gram panchayats in Unakoti district ahead of Durga Puja. The distribution program was held today at the Nat Mandir in Fatikroy Bazar.

The beneficiaries were among economically weaker section people of Fatikroy, Rajnagar, Gokulnagar, Krishnanagar, Radhanagar and Sripur Gram Panchayats, and Ganganagar Gram Panchayats, Demdum, Jurichhara, Saidachhara, Fatikchara and Rajkandi ADC Villages under Fatikroy assembly constituency.

Continuing a tradition he began upon assuming office, Minister Das personally handed over garments to beneficiaries, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring that economically disadvantaged families can partake in the joy of Durga Puja. “Durga Puja is not just a Bengali festival—it belongs to all communities. Everyone deserves to celebrate it with dignity,” he said during the event.

Addressing the gathering, the minister emphasized the spiritual essence of the festival and cautioned against the growing influence of harmful social trends in the name of celebration. He urged youth to stay away from addiction and called for collective efforts to uphold cultural values. “In Hindu tradition, women are revered as goddesses. This reverence must extend beyond idols to the mothers in our homes,” he added.

Unakoti Zilla Parishad President Amalendu Das, Kumarghat Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Suparna Das, and Fatikroy Gram Panchayat President Sumita Kar were among the dignitaries present. Guests joined the minister in distributing clothes to each recipient.

Residents expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that the support brought festive cheer to families who otherwise struggle to afford new garments during the puja season.
