Agartala, 26th September 2025 :   In a strong reaffirmation of the state’s commitment to tribal welfare, Tribal Welfare minister Bikash Debbarma stated that the current government has placed unprecedented emphasis on the development of indigenous communities.

Speaking at a felicitation ceremony for assistant plastic processing trainees held at Pragya Bhavan here today, the minister highlighted several initiatives aimed at uplifting tribal populations.

Debbarma pointed to the expansion of Ekalavya Model Residential Schools as a key example. “During 35 years of Left rule, Tripura had only four Eklavya schools. Today, that number has risen to 21,” he said. He also revealed plans to establish a dedicated Tribal University to further support education among tribal youth.

Emphasizing the role of skill development, Debbarma remarked, “No state or country can progress without enhancing the skills of its people. That’s why our government is focusing on building a skilled Tripura — a better Tripura.” He urged citizens to rise above caste and religion and work in unity to maintain peace and harmony, noting that development is impossible in the absence of peace.

Without directly addressing demands for a separate state, the minister advocated for mixed settlements, stating that regions with diverse populations tend to see more development. He acknowledged that areas dominated by a single ethnic group have lagged behind, reinforcing his support for inclusive growth.

The event was attended by officials from the Tribal Welfare Department alongside Minister Debbarma.
