Agartala, 4th October 2025 :  The West Agartala Women’s Police Station has arrested a man accused of the brutal rape and assault of a minor girl from the Rajnagar area.

The accused, identified as Shankar Das, a fish trader, is alleged to have committed the heinous crime, taking advantage of the victim’s familiarity with him. According to the complaint filed by the girl’s mother, the child used to address the accused as “Dadu” (grandfather).

The incident occurred when the girl’s parents were not at home. The complaint alleges that Shankar Das lured the minor to an empty room, where he subjected her to brutal physical assault. Reports indicate that the victim was severely beaten, leaving injury marks all over her body. In a further horrifying turn, he allegedly forced her to consume a poisonous pesticide.

Seeing the girl’s condition deteriorating critically, the accused fled the scene. Local residents later rescued the girl in a serious state and first rushed her to the IGM Hospital. Due to the gravity of her injuries, she was subsequently transferred to GB Pant Hospital for advanced treatment. The minor was reported to have multiple injury marks and was in a critical condition.

Following the incident, the girl’s family filed a formal complaint at the West Women’s Police Station.

Speaking on the investigation, Sheuli Das, the Officer-in-Charge of the police station, stated, “After taking up the case, we began our investigation. The accused, Shankar, was arrested late last night from the Sekerkote area.” She confirmed that a case has been registered against him under specific relevant sections of the law.

The police will seek a remand for the accused after producing him before the court. The Officer-in-Charge also provided an update, stating, “Currently, the minor girl’s physical condition is stable.”
