Tragic Death of 3-Year-Old Girl on Operating Table Sparks Allegations of Medical Negligence at GB Hospital

Agartala, 5th October 2025 :  A heart-wrenching incident has shaken the city after a three-year-old girl, Gungun Saha, died on the operating table at Gobinda Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital (GB Hospital). The child had been admitted for nearly five months without undergoing the much-needed surgery, despite repeated assurances from doctors.

According to reports, Gungun, daughter of Rajan Saha, a resident of the area near Vulcan Club, had been suffering from a brain tumor for an extended period. She previously underwent surgery in November 2014, after which her family maintained regular follow-ups with her doctors.

In June of this year, doctors advised a second operation, and the child was admitted to GB Hospital. However, the family alleged that the hospital authorities continuously delayed the surgery for five months, citing various excuses — from the unavailability of equipment to the need for additional medical opinions.

As Gungun’s condition deteriorated, she was urgently moved to the Trauma Centre and then taken to the operation theatre, where she tragically breathed her last during the procedure.

The devastated family has accused Dr. Reddy and Dr. Debabrata Saha of gross medical negligence, claiming that their inaction and mismanagement led to the untimely death of the child.

Following the incident, grief and anger have gripped the local community. Residents have expressed outrage over the alleged negligence and demanded a thorough investigation and strict action against those responsible.

As of now, the hospital authorities have not issued any official statement regarding the incident.
