Agartala, 7th October 2025 : Former Tripura Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb has accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal of undermining democratic principles.
Deb, who currently serves as the BJP’s election co-incharge for West Bengal, made the remarks following a meeting with BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh, who were allegedly assaulted while helping flood-affected residents in North Bengal.
In a Facebook post, Deb claimed that the two leaders were “attacked by Trinamool-backed miscreants,” adding that he visited them to check on their well-being.
He further alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s administration had “turned the government machinery into a party-controlled system” and was “using fear and violence as tools of politics.”
Deb said that “every day brings new incidents that weaken democratic values” in West Bengal, asserting that the ruling party, facing a “decline in public support,” is now “relying on intimidation through its cadres.”
