Agartala, 7th October 2025 : Tipra Motha Party founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has strongly criticized the prolonged delay in holding the village committee (VC) elections in Tripura, describing it as one of the longest postponements in India’s democratic history.
In a Facebook post, Pradyot revealed that the Chief Justice of India had taken note of the matter in the Supreme Court, and that the hearing on the pending VC elections is expected to take place on the 27th or 28th of this month.
“The delay in holding the VC elections must be one of the longest in the history of democratic India,” Pradyot wrote, expressing deep concern over the continued deferral.
He further alleged that the indigenous people of Tripura have long suffered due to a system “controlled by power, money, and manipulation.”
“The Hon’ble Supreme Court has delayed the listing of the VC hearing, but we will get a fresh date soon. The indigenous people continue to suffer because certain forces want to control our fate through power, money, and the system. Let’s not forget that frustration is growing among the youth and Gen Z,” he added.
The Tipra Motha chief has repeatedly raised the issue of the delay in local self-government polls, maintaining that it undermines the democratic rights of Tripura’s tribal population.
