Agartala, 10th October 2025 : The Tipra Motha Party MLA, Ranjit Debbarma, announced today that the statewide bandh originally planned for October 13, 2025, has been deferred to October 23, 2025. The decision was made in consideration of the upcoming Diwali celebrations.
Speaking at a press conference, Debbarma said that numerous genuine citizens from across Tripura had requested the postponement of the strike to avoid disrupting the festive season. Responding to their appeal, the Tripura Civil Society, which had initially planned a 13-hour bandh highlighting eight key demands, decided to reschedule it. Intellectuals, local communities, and other civil society members had also urged that the bandh be held after Diwali to prevent disturbance during the festival period. The rescheduled strike will now last for 24 hours.
Debbarma assured that all emergency services would be exempt from the bandh. Essential services, including ambulances, fire services, police, judiciary, and utility vehicles, will continue to operate normally.
The MLA reiterated that the bandh aims to urge the government to take immediate administrative action. Key demands include:
Identification of illegal foreign migrants in line with directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Construction of detention camps in every district.
Formation of a Special Task Force comprising BSF and Assam Rifles personnel.
Implementation of the Inner Line Permit system in Tripura to curb illegal infiltration.
Early enforcement of the signed Tri-Partite Tiprasa Accord.
Official recognition of the Roman script for writing the Kokborok language.
Cancellation of fraudulent Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe certificates.
Prompt implementation of the Tri-Partite Agreement signed on September 4, 2024, between the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, and ATTF-NLFT.
Debbarma urged the people of Tripura to participate peacefully in the bandh, emphasizing that daily necessities and essential services would remain unaffected during the 24-hour strike.
