Agartala, 22nd October 2025:  In a shocking act of vandalism, miscreants destroyed an entire cucumber field under the cover of darkness in Bagber Gram Panchayat’s Ward No. 3, located in Boxanagar RD Block. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation across the local farming community.

The victim Uttam Das, a hardworking farmer from the area, had cultivated the one-kani field with over 3,200 cucumber plants. According to family sources, he had invested several months of labor and over Rs 1 lakh to develop the flourishing garden, which had just begun to bear fruit. Tender cucumbers hung from the vines when, late at night, unidentified individuals entered the field and systematically cut down every plant.

Upon discovering the devastation the following morning, Das reportedly collapsed on the spot. His family rushed him for medical attention. His wife, Arpita Das, speaking through tears, said, “We work from dawn to dusk in this field to support our children’s education. Everything is gone now. They’ve destroyed our rubber plantation before, poisoned our fish pond. This is clearly the result of longstanding enmity.”

She added that the family is now on the brink of financial ruin and appealed to authorities for justice and strict punishment for the perpetrators.

Local residents expressed concern over repeated incidents of agricultural sabotage in the area, noting that culprits often go unpunished. Farmers now live in fear and uncertainty, unsure of how to protect their livelihoods.

Villagers have urged the administration to launch a swift investigation and identify those responsible, emphasizing that no farmer should have to endure such a heartbreaking loss again.
