Agartala, 22nd October 2025:  Alongside nationwide celebrations, the Annakut festival was observed with fervor across Tripura today, including in numerous temples and households. Prominent among the venues were the ISKCON Temple and Jagannath Jew Temple in Agartala, where devotees gathered to mark the occasion with traditional rituals and offerings.

At the ISKCON Temple, organizers of the Govardhan Puja addressed media representatives, explaining the spiritual significance of the day. “Annakut is celebrated on Govardhan Puja, which commemorates the episode from the Bhagavata Purana where Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan Hill to shelter the villagers of Vrindavan from torrential rains,” one organizer said. “The festival symbolizes Krishna’s triumph over Indra, the god of rain.”

Known interchangeably as Govardhan Puja and Annakut, the celebration involves creating a symbolic mountain of food to offer to Lord Krishna. The elaborate arrangement, resembling the Govardhan Hill, is later distributed among devotees as prasad.

In the evening, the temple also hosted a ceremonial lamp offering (deep daan), allowing devotees to participate in the spiritual ambiance and express their devotion through light and prayer.
