Agartala, 26th October 2025: Acting on a tip-off, personnel of the 154th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday detained six Bangladeshi nationals, including a child, from Ambassa Railway Station in Dhalai district.
According to reports, the group had come to Ambassa with the intention of traveling to Jalpaiguri (West Bengal) in search of work. All of them are residents of Bagerhat district in Bangladesh.
During preliminary interrogation, one of the detainees revealed that he had entered Tripura about a month ago. Before coming to India, he used to work at a tea garden in Bangladesh, where he met a person who later introduced him to someone in Agartala. Following this connection, the group reportedly arrived in Agartala and later decided to travel to Jalpaiguri in search of employment.
However, they were apprehended by BSF personnel at Ambassa Railway Station before they could leave. The detainees told officials that they were not personally acquainted with the agent based in Jalpaiguri but said that their photographs had been sent to him beforehand.
BSF officials, along with the Government Railway Police (GRP), are currently interrogating the six detainees. They are expected to be handed over to Ambassa Police Station and will be produced before the court on Monday, sources said.So far, BSF authorities have not issued any official statement regarding the incident.
During interrogation, the detainees reportedly confessed that they had entered Indian territory illegally with the help of an individual who arranged their crossing in exchange for money. They claimed that their primary motive was to find employment. Police have taken them into custody for further questioning to trace the network behind their illegal entry.
