Long Queues at Sonamura Aadhaar Office: Citizens Decry Poor Public Service in the Digital India Era

Agartala, 30th October 2025: In the age of Digital India, residents of Sonamura are expressing deep disappointment over the poor state of public services, particularly at the Aadhaar correction center located at the Sonamura Office Tilla.

Every morning, scores of people queue up as early as 4 a.m. to correct or update their Aadhaar cards. Even before sunrise, the premises of the Aadhaar section are overcrowded. Yet, despite waiting for hours, most citizens fail to get their work done.

According to reports, the office is handling corrections for only 36 applicants per day, forcing others to return the next day. Many residents complain that even after waiting for seven hours or more, it is nearly impossible to secure a token or complete their work, leading to widespread public anger.

Sources at the office revealed that only one computer system is currently functional, while the rest remain out of order, severely hampering the pace of work. The situation is further aggravated by an acute shortage of staff.

Earlier, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) had implemented strict measures to curb the broker system and streamline services. Though the reforms initially improved the situation, citizens say the office has once again fallen into disarray.

Residents complained that the long queues resemble those seen during elections or at ration distribution centers. “But in reality,” one frustrated citizen said, “we are just waiting to update our basic identity documents.”

Not only Aadhaar services but also other government document-related tasks at the Sonamura Office Tilla are facing similar delays. Locals noted that although services briefly improved after media reports highlighted the issue earlier, the situation has now reverted to its old, inefficient state.

Angry citizens, who return home empty-handed even after standing in line since dawn, described the situation as “shameful in the era of Digital India” and urged the administration to take immediate steps to resolve the problem.
