Agartala, 22nd November 2025: Residents of Mandai have once again raised allegations of substandard construction work, pointing to what they describe as a recurring “boulder scam” in the region.
During the monsoon season, the road connecting Mandai to Patni reportedly suffered severe erosion on both sides. To prevent further damage, authorities initiated work to install boulders and construct side walls. However, locals claim the contractors failed to build the side walls altogether, while the boulders placed were of extremely poor quality.
Residents informed, the boulders contain little to no cement, crumbling into sand even under minor pressure. “This is dangerously low-quality work. Without proper side walls, accidents could happen at any time,” villagers told the media personnel, demanding immediate corrective measures.
The community has urged officials to replace the weak structures with standard-quality boulders and ensure proper side wall construction. They have also appealed to ADC Chairman MDC Jagadish Debbarma and local MLA Swapna Debbarma to personally inspect the site and take necessary action.
Notably, similar complaints of poor-quality boulder installations have recently emerged from multiple areas across Mandai block. The issue now raises questions about whether concerned departments and elected representatives will intervene decisively or whether the problem will continue to haunt the region.
