MMD College holds Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 3.0

Agartala, 24th November 2025:  Under the initiative of the NSS unit of Sabroom Michael Madhusudhan Dutta(MMD) College in collaboration with the Organization for Rural Survival (ORS) and with the support of the District Health and Family Welfare Society, a program titled “Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 3.0” was organized under the National Tobacco Control Program today. This initiative has been launched jointly by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The 60-day nationwide campaign was initiated on October 9, 2025.

Dr. Anupam Guha, Principal, Dr. Arup Patari, NSS Program Officer, Dr. Soumik Hazra, Medical Officer, Sabroom Sub-Divisional Hospital, Ruman Chakraborty, project mannager,ORS, members of ORS Kamal Ghosh, Abhinaba Das, Deep Chakraborty and others along with professors and students were present in the programme.

The main objective of this campaign is to raise awareness among young people about the harmful effects of tobacco and to inspire them to adopt a tobacco-free lifestyle. It also emphasizes the effective enforcement of the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 and the Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019. The goal is to build a healthy, bright, and tobacco-free future for our youth. ORS members and volunteers appealed to students to become conscious and alert, and they performed a dramatization as part of the program. Attendees, including guests and students, were encouraged to stay aware and cautious about the dangers of tobacco use.
