Agartala, 24th November 2025:    A tragic road accident took place on the national highway near the Santirbazar SDM’s office, leaving one man dead and another critically injured.

Officials informed that fire service personnel rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information and rescued the two victims, who were taken to South Tripura District Hospital at Santirbazar.

Hospital sources confirmed that Gouranga Debnath (40), a resident of RK Ganj was declared dead on arrival. The other victim Admit Bhowmik (20) of Betaga sustained severe injuries and was later referred to GBP Hospital in Agartala for advanced treatment.

Police investigations, supported by CCTV footage from nearby shops, revealed that the accident was caused by a head-on collision between two motorcycles. The vehicles involved bearing registration numbers TR08-6162 and TR01AE-8440 were badly damaged in the crash. Officials suspect that the impact was so intense that Debnath, who was riding a Splendor bike, died instantly.

Santirbazar police later seized both motorcycles and registered a case in connection with the incident. Authorities stated that Debnath’s body will be handed over to his family after post-mortem examination.

The sudden death has cast a pall of grief over RK Ganj and adjoining areas. Local residents have urged authorities to strengthen speed control and surveillance measures on the national highway to prevent such accidents in the future.
