Agartala, 28th November 2025: A 25-day-old infant, admitted to Tripura Medical College with complications, has successfully recovered following a complex surgical procedure. The operation was carried out under the leadership of pediatric surgeon Dr. Aniruddha Basak and his medical team.
According to Dr. Basak, the baby was first brought to the hospital on October 24, the same day it was born at a private nursing home. The child was suffering from a condition in which part of the intestine protruded through the umbilical region. Typically, such cases are managed with medication rather than surgery, and the infant was initially discharged after showing signs of improvement.
However, within 10 to 14 days, the baby was readmitted with severe abdominal swelling and difficulty in feeding. Subsequent examinations revealed that the intestine had twisted inside the abdomen, creating a life-threatening complication.
On November 17, doctors performed an emergency surgery to correct the condition. The procedure was successful, and the infant is now stable and recovering normally. Hospital authorities confirmed that the child is expected to be discharged within the next two days.
This rare case highlights the critical role of timely medical intervention in neonatal emergencies, with specialists at Tripura Medical College ensuring the infant’s survival and recovery.
