Agartala, 20th October 2026 : Calling for dignity, equality and safety for people from the Northeast, Tipra Motha MLA Paul Dangshu has strongly condemned an alleged incident of racial harassment involving a youth from Tripura in Delhi and demanded immediate legal action against the person accused.
The MLA’s reaction came after a video purportedly showing self-proclaimed content creator Amir Shokeen allegedly harassing the indigenous youth surfaced online, triggering concerns over racial discrimination and the treatment of people from the Northeast in other parts of the country.
In a strongly worded statement, Dangshu expressed outrage over the alleged use of racist remarks, offensive language and insulting gestures, stating that such conduct undermines the dignity and identity of the people of Tripura and the wider Northeast.
According to the MLA, the youth was allegedly mocked by being called “Chinese,” while derogatory expressions targeting Tripura were reportedly used during the encounter.
Condemning the alleged behaviour, Dangshu stressed that racial humiliation cannot be dismissed as entertainment or justified in the name of social media content creation. He maintained that freedom of expression must not become a shield for discrimination, harassment or the deliberate humiliation of fellow citizens.
The MLA urged the Delhi Police and the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office to intervene promptly and ensure appropriate legal action against the individual allegedly involved in the incident.
He also underscored the need to create an environment in which people from Tripura and other northeastern states can live, study and work across the country without fear of racial abuse or discrimination.
The incident has once again drawn attention to concerns surrounding the safety, dignity and equal treatment of people from the Northeast, highlighting the need for greater awareness and accountability against racial harassment.
