Agartala, 2nd December 2025 :  A massive fire broke out late last night in Baishgharia, a Hindu-Muslim mixed residential area under Teliamura police station reducing three houses and a shop belonging to a Muslim family to ashes. The sudden blaze shattered the silence of the night, sparking panic across the locality.

Local sources informed that the affected residents include Kader Miah, Billal Hossain, and Gani Miah. Kader Miah’s shop was completely gutted, while the houses and kitchens of Billal and Gani were destroyed. Though the exact extent of damage is yet to be assessed, preliminary estimates suggest losses amounting to Rs 10–12 lakh.

Billal Hossain alleged that unidentified individuals deliberately set the fire by pouring petrol under the cover of darkness. Police, however, have not confirmed the claim and stated that the matter remains under investigation.

Notably, one of the victims, Gani Miah, has long been known in the Baishgharia and Teliamura region as a drug mafia. He faces multiple cases under the NDPS Act and POCSO Act, which are currently pending trial. This background has fueled speculation among locals regarding possible motives behind the incident.

While a section of residents suspects sabotage, police officials have maintained that no conclusion can be drawn until the investigation is complete.
