Agartala, 3rd December 2025:   Sabroom subdivision observed a high drama this morning when an eviction drive at Das Para in Madanmohan Palli, under Kathalchhari Gram Panchayat of Satchand RD Block, spiraled into chaos. Acting on a court order, court officials and police arrived to evict ten families from the disputed land. However, residents openly resisted, declaring, “We will not leave. We are ready to give our lives if necessary.”

Hundreds of villagers rallied in support of the families, who claimed they had been living on the land for decades while paying taxes to the government. Tensions escalated after a woman, about a year and a half ago, asserted that the land was her ancestral property and that the government had allotted it to her. Villagers questioned why long-term residents were denied allotment while someone not residing in the area was granted rights.

Residents further alleged that poverty left them unable to pursue legal battles in court, leaving them vulnerable and powerless to defend their claims. As the situation grew volatile, police facing mounting public pressure were compelled to suspend the eviction drive.

Police sources later confirmed that cases have been registered against ten individuals from the affected families for obstructing government work. Authorities stated that the eviction would be carried out again after completion of legal procedures.
