Agartala, 3rd December 2025: The International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025 was observed with day-long events in Ambassa, alongside the Tripura Para Games, organized by the Dhalai District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC). The programme was held with the support of the District Social Welfare & Social Education department and the department of Youth Affairs & Sports.
From the morning, the grounds of Kulai Higher Secondary School hosted sporting competitions across multiple categories, with participants arriving from different parts of the district. Later, a special ceremony was held at the DDRC premises where winners of the games were felicitated. In addition, students with disabilities who successfully passed their secondary and higher secondary examinations were honored with special awards. Ten achievers received financial rewards in recognition of their success.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Rajkumar Debbarma, Member Secretary of DDRC, emphasized that persons with disabilities may face physical challenges but possess equal intellect and capabilities. “In academics and sports, they are playing a leading role today. Those who secured first, second, and third positions here will be given the opportunity to compete in the Para Games in Agartala. I am confident they will showcase their best performances there,” he said.
The event was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Ambassa Municipal Council Chairperson Pratima Malakar. Other dignitaries present included Ambassa Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Hemali Debbarma, District Education Officer Madhusudan Debbarma, CDPO Kajal Kalai, disability rights representative Badal Bhattacharjee, and DDRC official physician Dr. Rajkumar Debbarma, among others.
The programme witnessed significant participation from persons with disabilities across the district, marking a vibrant celebration of inclusivity, resilience, and achievement.
