Agartala, 16th December 2025:   The shortage of drinking water has emerged as one of the major challenges in the Smart City project. To address this issue, an important meeting was held on Tuesday with the corporators of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). The meeting took place at the corporation’s conference hall and focused on ensuring the supply of purified drinking water to various wards under the AMC.

The meeting was attended by Mayor Deepak Majumder, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, all corporators, officials of the Water Board, and senior municipal officials. Speaking to the media, Mayor Deepak Majumder stated that several wards under the Agartala Municipal Corporation are facing difficulties in the supply of drinking water.

To resolve these issues, a detailed discussion was held between AMC officials and Water Board authorities on ways to improve water supply in the affected areas. The Mayor informed that so far, 17,377 families within the municipal area have not yet been provided with drinking water connections. A project has already been taken up to ensure water supply to these families.

He further mentioned that ongoing Smart City development works have led to several problems, including damage to water and gas pipelines. The Water Board has been instructed to take immediate action upon receiving complaints and to keep the complainants informed about the steps taken to resolve their issues.
