Agartala, 21st December 2025: Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today voiced concern over the hardships faced by the people under the current BJP government, citing unemployment and slow development as major issues.
Speaking at the 11th State Conference of the Tripura Leather Artisans Association, held at Bhanu Smriti Bhavan in Agartala, Sarkar highlighted the difficulties faced by ordinary citizens due to the soaring prices of essential goods. He warned that the rising cost of living, coupled with limited job opportunities, is leaving many people in distress.
“There is little work, and food is becoming a struggle. People are growing increasingly helpless,” he said, expressing his concern for the state’s vulnerable communities.
Addressing the leather artisans, Sarkar encouraged them to move beyond repairing old footwear and explore opportunities in new shoe production. He stressed that proper infrastructure and government support are essential to strengthen the industry, generate employment, and sustain long-term growth.
The conference brought together leather artisans and association representatives from across Tripura. Participants discussed the challenges confronting the leather sector, explored its growth potential, and deliberated on strategies to enhance its development and create more job opportunities.
