Agartala, 21st December 2025:  The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has commenced its two-day State Committee meeting today, according to Tripura’s Leader of the Opposition and CPI(M) State Committee Secretary, Jitendra Chaudhury.

Addressing the media, Chaudhury said that the State Committee usually convenes once every two months, unless pressing political developments require earlier discussions. He noted that the ongoing meeting will focus extensively on the prevailing political scenario at both the state and national levels.

Special attention will be given to issues impacting ordinary citizens and minority communities, he said. Chaudhury strongly criticised recent decisions taken by the Union government, particularly the replacement of a long-standing law that ensured 100 days of employment for rural workers. He described the scrapped legislation as a landmark achievement that protected people’s livelihood rights and alleged that the newly introduced law weakens those protections.

“The meeting will deliberate on how this change is affecting the rights of the people and chart out future programmes in consultation with the masses to oppose it,” Chaudhury stated.

He also accused the BJP of distancing itself from the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, claiming that expressions of grief over Gandhi’s assassination by BJP leaders are politically motivated. According to him, the ongoing changes to laws and even the renaming of institutions reflect a deeper ideological agenda.

Additionally, the CPI(M) leader said the committee will assess developments from the last two months, including concerns over declining law and order, rising crimes against women, increasing drug abuse, corruption, and other social challenges. The meeting will also focus on planning campaigns to mobilise public opinion and raise awareness against these issues.
