Locals halt construction over poor work

Agartala, 26th December 2025:   The current administration seems to be leaving behind past controversies, but allegations of corruption continue to surface in the region. After 25 consecutive years of Left Front rule, the present government has allowed local contractors to operate with near-total autonomy in Shanti Bazar.

One such contractor, Pankaj, associated with Mallik & Co., is reportedly dominating local construction projects. Residents of Manikgarh, under Sabroom Nagar Panchayat, have raised complaints regarding substandard work on the boundary wall of an overhead tank under construction at the old Fire Service office. Taking matters into their own hands, the community halted the construction. Locals claim that the concrete and bricks used are of very poor quality. While a 2.5-inch thick layer of concrete was required, less than an inch has been laid. The site foreman admitted to the flaws. Due to the engineer’s negligence, the residents had no choice but to stop the work themselves. The widespread corruption has sparked outrage among the locals, who have formally demanded a prompt investigation from the concerned department. The key question now remains whether any action will be taken following the publication of this news.
