Agartala, 1st January 2026 : Allegations of anti-social activities have surfaced at Shantir Bazar Eco Park, raising concerns among local residents and visitors. According to sources, the park’s secluded corners have increasingly become hotspots for inappropriate behavior, leaving families and general tourists uncomfortable.
Reports suggest that in recent weeks, young couples have been engaging in indecent conduct in hidden areas of the park, while groups of intoxicated individuals are often seen loitering after dusk. The absence of adequate security personnel and surveillance cameras across the park’s vast grounds has contributed to the rise in such incidents, locals claim.
Residents and civic-minded citizens argue that the Eco Park, meant to serve as a scenic tourist destination, is losing its appeal due to the growing unsafe environment. Families, once regular visitors, now hesitate to enter the premises.
The park, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Forest Department, has been criticized for its apparent negligence. Locals have urged authorities to take immediate action to restore order. Their demands include installation of sufficient lighting to eliminate dark corners after sunset, stricter entry regulations to prevent misuse of the premises, and strengthening of security arrangements, including deployment of guards and CCTV monitoring.
Community members emphasize that without swift intervention, the Eco Park risks losing its reputation as a safe recreational space.
