Agartala, 4th January 2026: A 35-year-old tribal woman, Dipali Debbarma, was critically injured on Saturday night in her own home in Khumulwng under Radha Pur police station after being struck by gunfire. According to her family, the incident occurred while the family was gathered around a fire for warmth.
Suddenly, a bullet hit Dipali, causing her to collapse instantly. The family does not know who fired the shot or why. Dipali was immediately taken to Khumulwng Kherengbari Hospital in a critical condition and was later referred to GB Hospital the same night. She is currently undergoing treatment at GB Hospital, where her condition is described as critical, and she is reportedly fighting for her life. Radha Pur police arrived at the scene immediately after the incident and have begun a full-scale investigation.
Reports indicate that the bullet struck Dipali in the chest. The incident has caused widespread shock and concern in the local community. Observers point out that the state has witnessed multiple firearm-related incidents in recent times. Concerns have been raised about criminal activities, including drug trafficking and land mafia operations, which seem to flourish despite the state’s claims of effective law enforcement. Citizens have expressed frustration over the inability of the police to prevent such violent incidents, even as law enforcement officials often showcase arrests and media photo-ops.
