Agartala, 14th January 2026:   Journalist Mrinal Debnath, a member of the Agartala Press Club and reporter for Daily Sangbad, was brutally attacked by four miscreants late Tuesday night in the Baradowali Chowdhury Mill area while returning home from work. The incident occurred around 11:15 pm on January 13.

Despite repeated calls to the Officer-in-Charge of Edinagar police station, Debnath reportedly received no response. Colleagues later rushed him to IGM Hospital for first aid.

The Tripura Journalists Union (TJU), Tripura Electronic Media Society (TEMS), and Tripura Working Journalists Association (TWJA) have strongly condemned the attack and expressed outrage over police negligence. They demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and punitive action against the concerned police officials.

Union leaders warned that failure to act could lead to larger protests, stressing that attacks on journalists are increasing across the state.
